I’m 24 and from frozen over Rochester NY and just about can’t take scrapping my car outta the ice for ONE MORE DAY!! I would like to move to the Tampa area but I need to find another career. I currently work on a IT helpdesk in the POS department for a company based out of Rochester. I have alot of experience and work history as a electrical apprentice working on commercial and industrial rated sites as well as panel building and installation and even residential electrical work. But I’ve also done a bunch of sales part time as well. I seem to get along with just about everybody I meet and make connections easy and pick up things very fast but the problem is I’m not really sure what it is I want to do and if I even want to stay in the electrical field, I would just like to find a descent paying job/career that could possibly turn into something bigger. Can anybody shine some light on my situation or give me some agencies that are hiring. Thanx for the help in advance

You’d leave the home of the garbage plate?
I suspect your best bets include getting the Sunday paper from Tampa (maybe the downtown library has it, or Pittsford Wegmans, which carries a lot of out-of-town papers), even if it’s a couple days later, and checking out the classified ads. This can give you an idea of the job situation in Tampa–and some notion of the cost of an apartment, too.
Get online and seek job listings in Tampa, too.
Make up a resume, or more than one version, emphasizing different aspects of your work history an experience.
Armed with all you’ve learned and done in the barren outpost of Rochester, find a way to visit Tampa during the business week, even if it involves taking vacation time and a marathon driving trip. (Bring a friend.) Check out the situation in person. Schmooze and see if you can make connections that might lead to a lead on a job.
While you’re there, apply at the companies you’ve seen advertising and make sure they know you’re ready to relocate the moment they say, “You’re hired.”
Good luck–send us a postcard!
